Me

Hi, I’m Henry. My interests are software development, art and graphic design, playing and creating video games, classic movies and B-movies, writing fiction and technical books, listening to and composing music.

I run my own independent software company, Railgun Labs. You can learn more about the company here.

I generally avoid social media in favor of decentralized standards, like RSS and Atom. If you want to follow me, then you can subscribe to my website with your RSS/Atom reader of choice.

Caffeine and Code#

I began to teach myself how to program computers in my early teens. I’d go on to earn a Computer Science degree. I worked for Big Corp for a number of years before leaving to form Railgun Labs.

My programming languages of choice are: C, Go, Python, and Lua. I like simple languages paired with rich problem domains (e.g. computer graphics, compilers and runtimes). I regularly switch between Ubuntu Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Hardcore Gamer#

I enjoy shooter games (think Doom and Quake), survival horror games (Resident Evil), and, to a lesser extent, RPG’s (Elder Scrolls) and RTS’s games (Age of Empires/Mythology). In my younger years, I also developed video games. This is something I desperately wish to circle back to.

Cinema Snob#

My idea of great classic films are Isle of the Dead, Eyes Without a Face, and Dark City (directors cut). My idea of great B-movies are The Pumaman, Death Promise, and most everything on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Aspiring Arteest#

I author all the graphic design for my projects and buisness, including the home page animations (desktop browser required to view). Art is a learned skill. Don’t let anyone tell you that it requires “innate talant.”

Digital art is significantly easier for me than drawing by hand, but I am actively trying to improve my skills for more “traditional” art.

Music Lover#

I’m an avid listener of power metal, neo-classical metal, syphonic metal, and classical music. I’m very gradually picking up electric guitar so I can become a shredder.

Root Beer Aficionado#

My favorite soft drink is Root beer. Root Beer is one of the _oldest_ soft drinks and it can be made with only organic ingrediants. I have a Root Beer bottle collection with over 64 bottles! It’s on my todo list to construct a proper display for them.

Story Teller#

I love a good story. I wrote and self-published a fiction book when I was much younger. I’m slowly drafting an outline for my next one now.

Futurism#

The biggest issue we face today is the complete and total misuse of technology. Technology should liberate us for meaningful pursuits, but instead its advancements risk destroying livelihoods and contributing to social friction. I think a change in our socio-economic model is neccessary to get us back on track.
